Think Cloud Computing 2016: A Write Up

We’ve been working with organisations in the charitable sector for many years and understand the importance of helping charities to be as efficient as possible. From our work with organisations including Variety, the Children’s Charity, and the Trinitarian Bible Society, we know technology can be instrumental in achieving this goal.

Following the success of our previous Think Cloud Computing event, we again partnered with the Charity Finance Group (CFG), a charity that champions best practice in the voluntary sector, to host our third joint Think Cloud Computing for Charities seminar.

Cloud computing is a big trend within the not-for-profit sector, allowing organisations to work in a more efficient way. So, the Think Cloud Computing training course addressed key themes and trends from the world of cloud computing.

Bringing together professionals from charities across the UK, the seminar focused on helping delegates understand the value that Cloud technologies can bring, with special attention on the cost implications and implementation of cloud computing.

Node4’s Peter Bodley-Scott, who has 16 years experience working with not-for-profit organisations, covered the critical aspects of Cloud Computing, including:

  • Definition and types of cloud
  • Cost including CapEx vs OpEx
  • Security
  • Data protection
  • Aspects to take into account before moving to the cloud, during, and in case of leaving or changing provider
  • Examples of what can go wrong and how to solve it

Critically, delegates were be able to hear first-hand how the Cloud has positively impacted the Trinitarian Bible Society (TBS), with David Broome, Resources Director, explaining the charity’s journey and the key drivers for adopting a Private Cloud infrastructure from Node4.

Here's a video of the day. Enjoy!
