Have you ever wanted to peer inside the expansion of a Data Centre, and see what goes on?
Well...here's your chance.
The Node4 Northampton Data Centre is expanding its existing 360-rack footprint by 900m2 to 760 racks, spread across three data halls. The halls have been designed to meet increasing demand for secure, reliable, purpose-built Colocation that meets stringent Business Impact Level compliance, with secure ‘caged’ areas and higher density racks, using blade servers.
The upgrade will see the Data Centre built around an innovative cooling system. Instead of Chillers, Node4 will be using Hot Aisle containment and cooling its rooms using adiabatic cooling. This means that the PuE (power usage effectiveness) of the expansion will be as low as 1.1.
So, as part of our new video series, documenting the growth of our Northampton Data Centre, here's a video showing a time-lapse of our packaged substation installation.
The initial build phase will see a significant investment of £2m, with a further £1.5m investment also planned. The Data Centre will double its overall site load to 4MW and have an additional 1.5MW of IT load on top of its current 1.1MW IT capability.
Rik Williams, Head of Data Centre Operations, Node4, explains the significance of the expansion:
“Our Northampton site is a core part of our business and it is vital we continue our investment and presence in the region, especially as the Data Centre is just an hour away from London. By expanding the site, we reinforce our commitment to provide both local and national businesses with the high quality connectivity, colocation and cloud services they are demanding.”
So, now you've seen the first of our new video series, giving you a glimpse of the hard work going on behind the scenes.
Stay tuned for the next in the series...
